For candidates

What to expect

A company has invited you to a work simulation. Here's what it involves.

How long it takes

Usually about 45 minutes, in one sitting. At the limit, usually 75 minutes, you're asked to wrap up, and the session closes shortly after. Some simulations are shorter or longer: your invitation and the start screen give the exact numbers for yours. There's no pause button, so set the time aside before you start.

What you'll do

The exact mix depends on the role. In general, you will:

  • Read a brief that sets up the problem.
  • Talk to your AI teammates, in chat and on voice calls, to get the information you need.
  • Produce a deliverable: a document, an analysis, a plan, code or an email, depending on the role.
  • In most simulations, explain your decisions on a call.

What's recorded, and why

We record your screen, camera and microphone for the whole session. Your browser asks for permission at the start; share your entire screen, not a single tab. We record it so the person reviewing your work sees how you actually did it, the questions you asked and the decisions you made, instead of judging you on a CV. The hiring team at the company that invited you sees it. Skillvee staff look only when you ask for help, to check the quality of our scoring, to keep the service secure, or when the law requires it.

Who you're talking to

Everyone you meet in the simulation, whether a teammate, a manager or a customer, is an AI. They know things about the problem that you need, and they answer the way a colleague would. You can ask any of them directly whether they're an AI.

Who decides

A person at the company that invited you reviews your work and makes the decision. We supply the evidence. There's no automatic pass or fail, and we never send them a hire or no-hire recommendation.

How you're evaluated

What you get back

If your session is recorded, you get written feedback on your work on your results page, whatever the outcome.

What you can use

Any AI tools you like, and any other tools you normally work with. How you use them is part of what your reviewer sees.

It's an exercise, not real work

The people, data and situation in the simulation are invented, and nothing you produce is used for real work.

Deleting your data

You can ask to delete your account and everything in it, recording included, from your profile at any time, or by writing to hi@skillvee.com. We delete it within 31 days of the request.

Before you start

  • Use a computer with a camera and a microphone. Phones don't work, and most tablets can't share their screen.
  • Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  • Find a quiet place where you can talk out loud.
  • Headphones help on the voice calls.
  • Do it in one sitting: the clock keeps running if you step away. It only stops if your screen share drops, for up to 10 minutes in total.
